Michigan names Orji starting QB vs. USC
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore announced that Alex Orji will be the team's starting quarterback when the Wolverines play USC on Saturday, per The Athletic's Austin Meek.
Davis Warren started the first three games for Michigan. He was benched in the Wolverines' 28-18 win over Arkansas State last weekend after throwing three interceptions. Warren finished the contest completing 11 of 14 attempts for 122 yards before being pulled in the second half.
Orji has received limited playing time through the Wolverines' first three matchups. He's completed 3 of 6 pass attempts for 15 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound quarterback is known for his ability as a dual-threat passer. His 58 rushing yards are the third most on the team, and his 5.8 yards per carry are second behind only tailback Donovan Edwards among players with double-digit rushing attempts.
Michigan is seeking to improve its play under center after J.J. McCarthy led the program to a national championship last season.
