North Carolina quarterback Max Johnson will return for the Tar Heels' 2025 campaign, the passer said Friday, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Johnson, a grad student, suffered a season-ending broken leg in the team's opener against Minnesota.

"I have a lot of football left in me, and know I will be back out there next year," he said, per Thamel.

Johnson started his collegiate career at LSU before transferring to Texas A&M and then North Carolina. The 6-foot-5, 219-pounder completed 12 of 19 pass attempts for 71 yards and an interception before sustaining the injury in Week 1.

Johnson has thrown for 5,923 yards, 47 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in 31 career games.
