SGA to miss start of training camp due to MCL sprain

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Wednesday that guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will miss the start of training camp with a Grade 2 left MCL sprain.

Gilgeous-Alexander will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

The 24-year-old averaged career highs in points (24.5) and assists (5.9) in 56 contests last season for Oklahoma City. He missed the final 10 games of the campaign due to ankle soreness.

In 2020-21, Gilgeous-Alexander missed the Thunder's final 29 games with a plantar fascia tear.

Gilgeous-Alexander is entering his fifth NBA campaign. His five-year, $179-million contract extension with Oklahoma City kicks in this season.

The Thunder acquired Gilgeous-Alexander from the Los Angeles Clippers in the July 2019 Paul George deal.
