Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson left Monday's game against the Detroit Tigers in the fourth inning after cutting his lip on his helmet during a stolen-base attempt.

Simpson's helmet flew off his head, ricocheted off second base, and hit him in the face.

The 25-year-old exited with training staff and received stitches in his lower lip, Rays manager Kevin Cash said, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Cash added that Simpson is expected to play on Tuesday.

Simpson entered Monday's contest hitting .282 with 14 stolen bases for the first-place Rays.
