Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy suffered a left knee injury during the sixth inning of Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox.

The Dodgers said Muncy was removed due to left knee pain. Muncy will undergo an MRI on Thursday, and manager Dave Roberts said the team is optimistic it'll reveal no more than a sprain, according to ESPN's Alden González.

Michael A. Taylor took out Muncy's left knee while sliding head first on an attempted steal of third base. Taylor was also shaken up on the play, and left the game with what the White Sox termed a left trap contusion.

Muncy required assistance from the Dodgers trainer to leave the field. The play happened just before Clayton Kershaw recorded the 3,000th strikeout of his career.

The 34-year-old veteran entered Wednesday slashing .252/.377/.461 with 13 home runs and 55 RBIs.

Kiké Hernández entered the game at third base in Muncy's place.
