Tigers' Mize lands on IL with hamstring strain
The Detroit Tigers placed starting pitcher Casey Mize on the injured list with a left hamstring strain, the club announced Saturday.
Detroit recalled right-handed pitcher Chase Lee from Triple-A Toledo in the corresponding roster move.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch called Mize's strain "mild," according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. He was sidelined for two months of the 2024 season with a hamstring strain in the same leg.
The 28-year-old has pitched well for the Tigers thus far in 2025, working to a 2.53 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across seven starts. He's already picked up an MLB-leading six wins on the year.
Mize owns a 4.13 ERA (101 ERA+) and 1.26 WHIP across 68 career appearances since being drafted first overall in 2018.
Detroit entered Saturday with the AL's best record at 26-13.
