Braves place Strider on IL with hamstring strain
The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander Spencer Strider on the 15-day injured list with a strained right hamstring, the club announced Monday.
The setback comes after Strider made his season debut last week. He missed most of the 2024 campaign following elbow surgery.
Strider sustained the injury playing catch ahead of Monday's series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com.
The Braves recalled right-hander Michael Petersen from Triple-A in a corresponding roster move. He made one appearance for the Braves this season, pitching two scoreless innings with one strikeout against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 13.
Strider allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts across five innings in his first start against the Toronto Blue Jays. His average fastball velocity of 95.4 mph was more than one mile per hour slower than when he last took the mound.
The 26-year-old was scheduled to start Tuesday's game. It's not yet clear who will pitch in his place.
Atlanta has found its stride of late, posting an 8-6 record after starting the season 0-7. The Braves are coming off a three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins at home over the weekend.
