Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Jones will be shut down from throwing for six weeks after feeling discomfort in his elbow, sources told Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Jones didn't tear any ligaments, and the injury won't require surgery, Hiles added.
The 23-year-old missed his last scheduled spring training start after experiencing elbow discomfort during a bullpen session. He underwent imaging on his elbow March 19.
Jones was expected to be a big part of the Pirates' rotation this season, along with Paul Skenes and Mitch Keller.
The California native posted a 4.14 ERA with a 9.8 K/9 in 121 2/3 innings during his rookie campaign in 2024.
