Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Jordan Montgomery said Tuesday that he'll undergo Tommy John surgery next week, according to The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro.

"Just haven't been recovering very well. ... Day after that last game came back sore," Montgomery added, per Jack Sommers of Sports Illustrated. "Took a day off like I normally do (but) next day it was still achy. So, we pushed my bullpen back. Felt decent the next day. ... But something was wrong."

Montgomery, who will make $22.5 million this season, posted a 6.23 ERA with 1.65 WHIP and 83 strikeouts over 117 innings in 2024, the worst campaign of his eight-year career.

The D-Backs signed the 32-year-old to a one-year, $25-million contract in March 2024. However, the pitcher's deal included a vesting player option for 2025, which he reached by making 21 starts. He was slated to begin the new campaign in the bullpen after failing to crack the rotation before sharing the news about the surgery.

Team owner Ken Kendrick called the Montgomery signing a "horrible decision" in October. The latter also fired Scott Boras last April, later saying his former agent "butchered" the hurler's free agency.

Arizona reportedly tried to trade Montgomery during the offseason but couldn't find any takers.

Meanwhile, the D-Backs agreed to a one-year, $1.25-million deal with reliever Jalen Beeks in the wake of injuries to Montgomery and right-hander Kevin Ginkel (shoulder inflammation), a source told Piecoro.

The 31-year-old left-hander authored a 4.50 ERA with 3.99 FIP and 55 strikeouts over a combined 70 appearances between the Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates last season.
