Angels release Moniak after he won arbitration hearing
The Los Angeles Angels released outfielder Mickey Moniak, the club announced Tuesday.
The Angels still owe Moniak over $333,000, one-sixth of the $2 million he was awarded for the 2025 campaign following his arbitration hearing in late January, notes Jeff Passan of ESPN.
The team offered the 26-year-old a $1.5-million salary before the ruling.
The Philadelphia Phillies selected Moniak with the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft before trading him to the Angels in August 2022. He slashed .192/.241/.365 with two homers over 52 at-bats this spring after going deep 14 times with 49 RBIs and a .646 OPS across 124 games last season.
Moniak's situation is similar to that of infielder J.D. Davis, who was cut by the San Francisco Giants in March 2024 after winning his arbitration case.
