Soto draws rave reviews at Mets camp: 'He's just a monster'

Star outfielder Juan Soto turned heads as he reported for spring training Sunday.

"I mean, he’s just a monster," Mets hitting coach Jeremy Barnes said, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.

Soto signed a record-breaking 15-year, $765-million megadeal in December, spurning the New York Yankees to join the Mets.

"He’s different," Barnes said. "Everything about him is different. You don’t get that kind of contract unless you’re different."

Soto is expected to bat second behind star shortstop Francisco Lindor and patrol right field this season.

"I’m really happy to know where I’m going to be for the next 15 years, and I’m more than excited to spend it with this group of guys," Soto said. "I’ve only heard great things about them. Let’s see how everything goes."

Soto, 26, belted a career-high 41 home runs with 109 RBIs and a 180 wRC+ across 157 games last season. He also added four home runs and nine RBIs in 49 postseason at-bats during the Yankees' run to the World Series.
