The New York Yankees' busy offseason might not be over.

New York continues to discuss a trade with the San Diego Padres for infielder Luis Arraez, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The Padres have reportedly been discussing a deal for the three-time batting champ in an attempt to free up payroll to improve other areas of need.

New York has a need at second base after Gleyber Torres departed for the Detroit Tigers in free agency. Arraez has spent much of his career at second base, though he played most of his defensive reps at first for the Padres last season.

The 27-year-old Arraez is one of the best contact hitters in baseball, authoring a career .323 batting average with just 194 strikeouts in 2,858 plate appearances.

He's projected to earn $14.6 million through arbitration in 2025 before becoming a free agent in 2026.

It's been a busy winter for the defending American League champions, who were unable to re-sign Juan Soto but have acquired Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt, among others.

The Yankees have also reportedly inquired with the Los Angeles Dodgers about the availability of another second baseman, Gavin Lux.
