No Met will ever wear No. 5 again.

The New York Mets announced Monday that David Wright will have his number retired and be inducted into the team's hall of fame in a special ceremony July 19.

Wright retired in 2018 after spending his entire 14-year career with New York. He became the fourth captain in team history in 2013, joining the likes of Keith Hernandez, Gary Carter, and John Franco.

The dynamic third baseman made seven All-Star appearances in eight seasons from 2006-2013. He also won two Gold Gloves and finished in the top 10 in MVP voting four times during that run.

Wright appeared on track for Cooperstown before chronic injuries prematurely ended his career. He played in just 77 games after turning 32 while battling spine, neck, and shoulder issues.

Wright overcame these injuries to play in all five of the Mets' World Series games in 2015 against the Kansas City Royals. He homered and drove in four runs in the club's lone win of the series in Game 3.

Wright remains the Mets' franchise leader in hits (1,777), RBIs (970), doubles (390), and walks (762). He ranks second in home runs (242) and games played (1585), as well as fourth in stolen bases (196).

He retired with a .296/.376/.491 slash line and 133 OPS+.
