Report: Yankees, Mariners inquired about Dodgers' Lux
The New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners have shown interest in trading for Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux, sources told Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated.
The Mariners have reportedly been more aggressive in their attempt to acquire Lux.
New York needs to fill a hole at second after Gleyber Torres joined the Detroit Tigers in free agency. Jazz Chisholm Jr., who's made 156 starts at the position over his five-year career, is an option, but he could also remain at third base. He logged 45 starts there for the Yankees last season following a move from the Miami Marlins.
Meanwhile, Seattle is still looking for its first big move of the offseason. The team is currently projected to start Dylan Moore at the keystone position with Jorge Polanco looking for a new contract on the open market.
The Dodgers have an influx of infielders after reportedly signing KBO star Hyeseong Kim to a three-year, $12.5-million pact. Lux, Kim, Mookie Betts, Miguel Rojas, and Chris Taylor can all man second.
Lux, 27, slashed .251/.320/.383 with 10 homers and 50 RBIs over a career-high 139 games last season. The former top prospect is projected to make around $2.76 million in 2025 and is arbitration-eligible through 2026.
