White Sox GM: I'm 'a little surprised' by historically bad season

Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz expected his team to struggle in 2024 but admits that he wasn't expecting things to be as bad as they've been.

The White Sox entered play Monday with a 33-111 record and are on pace to surpass the 1962 New York Mets' modern record of 120 losses in a season.

"If you would have told me we were going to end up flirting with the record, I would have been a little surprised," Getz said Monday, per MLB.com's Scott Merkin. "Now if you would have told me prior to the year that we would have ended up with over 100 losses, 105, 110, I wouldn't have been as surprised."

Getz is in his first full season at the helm after taking over for longtime general manager Rick Hahn, who was fired in August 2023.

The White Sox are on pace to finish the year at 37-125. The 1899 Cleveland Spiders hold the all-time MLB record for most losses in a season with 134.
