Orioles land Eflin from Rays in 4-player trade
The Baltimore Orioles acquired right-hander Zach Eflin from the Tampa Bay Rays, the team announced Friday.
Tampa will get infielder Mac Horvath, right-hander Jackson Baumeister, and outfielder Matthew Etzel in return.
Eflin is under contract for $18 million next season, the final campaign of a three-year, $40-million deal.
The 30-year-old owns a 5-7 record with a 4.09 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and 87 strikeouts across 110 innings in 2024.
Eflin joins an Orioles staff that's been pitching as a four-man rotation of late. He'll slot in alongside ace Corbin Burnes, Grayson Rodriguez, Dean Kremer, and Albert Suárez.
Horvath, a third baseman, was Baltimore's No. 13 prospect, according to Baseball America. The 23-year-old has nine home runs, 41 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases in 71 games at High-A this season.
Baumeister was the No. 18 prospect in Baltimore's system, per Baseball America. The 22-year-old is 1-3 with a 3.06 ERA and 91 strikeouts across 70 2/3 innings at High-A this season.
The Orioles drafted Etzel in the 10th round in 2023. The 22-year-old hit .289 with six home runs, 47 RBIs, and 41 stolen bases at Double-A this season.
