Cincinnati Reds right-hander Tyler Mahle isn't concerning himself too much with trade rumors ahead of the Aug. 2 MLB trade deadline.
"It is what it is," Mahle said Friday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Bobby Nightengale. "I've said this before: I understand it's a business. That's all it is, really. It doesn't hurt my feelings or anything. I’m going to go out there and pitch. That’s all I can do and all I can control."
Mahle is earning $5.2 million this season and is scheduled for one more round of arbitration before hitting free agency following the 2023 campaign.
Although he isn't bothered by hearing his name bandied about in trade rumors, Mahle admits he's keeping an eye on which teams might be showing interest in acquiring him.
"For myself, I like to keep updated," Mahle said. "I know what's going on. It's just fun to listen to see what everyone has to say and all that stuff. Like I said, it doesn't change my mind on anything. I just like to sit back and watch what everyone is saying."
The 27-year-old is another player whose vaccination status could impact the number of potentially interested clubs. When asked if he might consider getting vaccinated, Mahle kept the door open but admitted it's unlikely.
"I don't think so, but we'll see," he said. "I think I'd have to deal with that when it comes."
Mahle has been on the injured list since July 6 with a shoulder strain. He's expected to return for a start Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
