The European Tour plans to restart the 2020 season on July 22 with the first of six consecutive events in a new series dubbed the "UK Swing," the organization announced Thursday.

The Betfred British Masters hosted by Lee Westwood is the first event on the schedule after the Euro Tour's season was put on hold March 8 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Without question, we have had to think differently about the remainder of our 2020 season which is reflected in today's announcement," European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley said. "As golf's global Tour, diversity is ordinarily one of our biggest strengths, but in this instance, it has become one of our biggest challenges.

"Initially, therefore, based on the expert guidance we received, playing in clusters, in one territory, is the best option in terms of testing, travel, and accommodation."

The restarted season will be played without fans and run until December with all tournaments subject to strict safety and testing protocols set out by the Tour's "comprehensive Health Strategy."

A lineup of events from September through November will be announced at later date and will need to align with the U.S. Open, Ryder Cup, and Masters, which are also scheduled during that stretch.

The Tour did announce new dates for four Rolex Series events, two of which will take place in October and the final two in December, which will put a bow on the 2020 campaign.
