Brandt Snedeker became just the ninth player in history to break 60 on the PGA Tour with his 59 on Thursday at the Wyndham Championship, and he certainly recognized the stakes while standing on the final green.

"I was very aware of what was going on and to knock that putt in was really special," Snedeker said in his press conference after the historic round. "To know that I'm a part of a small club on Tour, not very many people have done this - really cool feeling right now."

The 37-year-old Nashville native can even lay claim to a unique milestone within the 59 club, as he's the only golfer to break 60 despite being over par at some point during the round. Snedeker bogeyed his first hole Thursday and was 1-over after three at Sedgefield Country Club.

However, after holing out for eagle on the par-4 sixth and then sticking his approach on the following hole, Snedeker knew 59 was in striking distance.

"When the 5-iron got close on seven, I was like 'Okay, you got to do it - it's not going to get any easier than this,'" he added.

Snedeker also took a lighthearted jab at the crowd while discussing his eagle, a shot he didn't realize had gone in because of the gallery's muted reaction.

"I had my putter walking up, trying to get ready to make a birdie putt and I got up there and only saw one ball," Snedeker told reporters with a smirk. "Then everyone started smiling at me and I'm like, 'You could have been more excited from the fairway, this does not happen all the time!"

Despite shooting a record-setting round and holding an early lead, Snedeker hasn't won anything yet. Only four of the nine players who shot a sub-60 round went on to win the tournament.
