Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse won't medal in the 100m in Paris after failing to qualify for the final.

De Grasse posted a time of 9.98 seconds, putting him in fifth place in his semifinal and just outside the eight men who advanced to the final.

The Canadian was attempting to medal in the event for the third straight Olympics after earning bronze in both the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Games. He's one of only 11 men to have multiple Olympic medals in the 100m.

World champion American Noah Lyles claimed gold in the event with a thrilling photo-finish victory over Jamaica's Kishane Thompson.

This won't be the final medal chance for De Grasse in Paris as he'll still compete in the 200m, beginning Monday, where he's the defending Olympic gold medalist.
