Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley has found perennial success after bringing the NHL to Sin City, and now has his sights set on doing the same with an NBA franchise.
Foley, who also owns AFC Bournemouth in the English Premier League, is among several bidders hoping to bring the NBA to Las Vegas. The association announced in March that it will formally explore expanding to Nevada and Seattle in March.
"I know I can do it again in basketball," Foley told The Athletic's Mike Vorkunov. "It's going to be difficult, but I know I can do it. I know I can rally a team."
The Golden Knights were instant contenders upon entering the NHL for the 2017-18 season. Vegas reached the Stanley Cup Final in its inaugural season and has made two additional trips to the championship series, winning the Cup in 2023.
"We did a couple things really well," Foley said. "We're going to do it on steroids with an NBA team."
Foley acknowledged he's one of five investment group he knows pushing to get the keys to a Vegas NBA franchise. Other investors reportedly include NBA legend Magic Johnson and former Disney CEO Bob Iger.
Foley owns a piece of T-Moblie arena in Vegas, which he believes could house an NBA franchise after renovations. It's unclear at this point if an NBA franchise will share a building with the Golden Knights.
Las Vegas received an NFL franchise in 2020 when the Raiders relocated from Oakland, and will be the permanent home of the MLB's Athletics starting in 2028.
