San Jose Sharks superstar Macklin Celebrini and potential No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna are among the players who have committed to representing Canada at the upcoming World Championship, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Mark Scheifele, Mathew Barzal, and Morgan Rielly also committed, Dreger reports. The tournament begins May 15 in Switzerland.
Canada's roster is being assembled by former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving and Pittsburgh Penguins AGM Jason Spezza.
Celebrini has the potential to be Canada's top player. The 19-year-old is coming off a 115-point season with the Sharks and has already established himself on the international stage. He had six points in eight games at the tournament last year, then notched 10 points in six Olympic contests in February as Canada captured a silver medal.
McKenna is coming off a 51-point season with Penn State. He's played for Canada at the past two world juniors and was second on the team in scoring this past winter as they won a bronze medal.
Canada has failed to medal at the World Championship the past two years.
