The San Jose Sharks placed forward Jeff Skinner on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Skinner will be free to sign with any team once he clears waivers and the termination is complete.
The Sharks signed Skinner to a one-year, $3-million contract as a free agent in the summer, but he's failed to produce as expected, tallying six goals and seven assists in 32 games.
The 33-year-old has averaged 28 goals and 25 assists per 82 contests across his 16-year NHL career, but his production has declined in recent seasons. He scored 35 goals in 2022-23 and 24 goals in 2023-24 before being bought out by the Buffalo Sabres. Skinner then managed 16 goals last campaign with the Edmonton Oilers.
