Report: Canadiens among teams interested in Kings' Danault
The Montreal Canadiens are among the teams circling around Los Angeles Kings forward Phillip Danault, Frank Seravalli reported Thursday on Prime Video's Coast to Coast.
Danault could move before the Dec. 20 holiday roster freeze, adds Seravalli.
The 32-year-old has managed just five assists through 30 games this season and has failed to score on 42 shots on goal. Danault recorded eight goals and 43 points last year, and he added two goals and eight points in six playoff contests. He's eclipsed the 40-point mark in all four of his campaigns with the Kings.
Danault played six seasons with the Canadiens from 2016-21. He finished top-10 in Selke Trophy voting for the NHL's best defensive forward four times with Montreal, and was a key defensive piece in the Habs' run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021.
The Canadiens have two rookies, Oliver Kapanen and Owen Beck, playing down the middle with Kirby Dach and Jake Evans sidelined.
Danault is signed through 2026-27 at a $5.5-million cap hit, and he owns a 10-team no-trade list.
