Doughty week-to-week with lower-body injury
Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty is week-to-week with a lower-body injury, head coach Jim Hiller announced Monday.
Doughty left Saturday's win over the Ottawa Senators after blocking a shot with his foot. The ailment is unrelated to the broken ankle he sustained last season.
"Completely separate. It'll heal just fine," Hiller said, according to NHL.com.
Doughty's notched eight points in 19 games this season while averaging over 22 minutes per contest. Missing time could jeopardize his chances of making Canada's Olympic team, which he said he expects to be on in September.
The soon-to-be 36-year-old was an injury replacement on Canada's 4 Nations Face-Off squad in February. Doughty played only six NHL games before the tournament, where he added to his illustrious international resume that includes two Olympic gold medals, a World Cup of Hockey title, and a world junior gold.
Olympic teams must submit their rosters by Dec. 31.
Doughty's in his 18th NHL season since the Kings drafted him second overall in 2008. He's under contract through 2027 at an $11-million cap hit.
