The St. Louis Blues signed free-agent center Pius Suter to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $4.125 million, the team announced Wednesday.

Suter was the top remaining player available at his position. He set career highs with 25 goals and 46 points in 81 games with the Vancouver Canucks last season.

While the 5-foot-11, 179-pound Suter lacks ideal physical characteristics and foot speed, he's posted superb defensive metrics over the last few seasons.

The 29-year-old projects to slot in as St. Louis' third-line center behind Robert Thomas and Brayden Schenn. The Blues also have Dylan Holloway, Alexandre Texier, Nick Bjugstad, and Oskar Sundqvist capable of playing down the middle. Center Dalibor Dvorsky, the No. 10 pick in 2023, could also compete for playing time after making his NHL debut last season.

Suter, who hails from Switzerland, has averaged 18 goals and 18 assists per 82 games over his five-year NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, and Canucks.
