The Vancouver Canucks traded defenseman Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers for a 2025 third-round pick, the teams announced Thursday.

The third-rounder originally belonged to the San Jose Sharks. The Rangers acquired the pick earlier Thursday in a deal that sent Reilly Smith back to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Soucy, a 6-foot-5, stay-at-home defenseman, is signed through next season with a $3.25-million cap hit.

The 30-year-old shined in his first year with Vancouver after signing with the club ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, but his performance has dipped this season. Soucy posted 4.4 defensive goals above replacement last campaign but owns a minus-3.8 mark in 2024-25, per Evolving-Hockey.

Soucy will help fill the void on the left side of New York's blue line after Ryan Lindgren was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. While he shoots left, Soucy can also play his off side, which could come in handy with Adam Fox injured.

Also, Soucy and Rangers blue-liner Will Borgen were defense partners during two seasons with the Seattle Kraken.
