Report: Hurricanes received multiple offers for Rantanen
The Carolina Hurricanes have received multiple compelling offers for star winger Mikko Rantanen leading up to Friday's trade deadline, sources told Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.
It was reported Wednesday the Hurricanes have reached out to see who'd be interested in acquiring Rantanen after he informed the club he won't sign an extension prior to the deadline. Carolina reportedly offered Rantanen an eight-year deal worth more than $100 million.
Rantanen will remain eligible to sign an extension after the deadline passes. The 28-year-old is scheduled for unrestricted free agency this summer.
The Hurricanes acquired Rantanen from the Colorado Avalanche in January in a blockbuster move that sent Martin Necas to Denver. Rantanen's produced only six points in 12 games since the move after 64 in 49 games with Colorado.
Rantanen's cap hit is $4.625 million after the Chicago Blackhawks agreed to retain 50% of his salary to help facilitate the trade to Carolina. That total could be slashed in half again if the Hurricanes retain money in a trade, making him affordable for most teams.
Rantanen has been one of the league's top producers in recent years. He's topped 100 points the past two seasons and played a vital role in Colorado's Stanley Cup run in 2022.
