Rangers trade Trouba to Ducks

The New York Rangers dealt captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and a 2025 fourth-round pick, the clubs announced Friday.

The Rangers aren't retaining any of Trouba's $8-million cap hit, reports TSN's Pierre LeBrun.

New York was holding the physical blue-liner out Friday while trying to work out a trade. They opted not to place him on waivers earlier in the afternoon.

Trouba's modified no-trade clause allows him to submit a list of 15 teams to which he doesn't want to be dealt. The Columbus Blue Jackets were one of those, per The Athletic's Aaron Portzline.

The 30-year-old had been the subject of trade talks dating back to the offseason.

Drury reportedly mentioned Trouba along with Chris Kreider in a late November message to the NHL's other 31 teams implying the Rangers were interested in shaking up their roster.

Trouba is under contract through 2025-26. The Rangers named him captain ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

New York acquired him in a June 2019 trade with the Winnipeg Jets for defenseman Neal Pionk and the first-round pick that became rearguard Ville Heinola.

Trouba has collected only six points - all assists - in 24 games while averaging exactly 20 minutes of ice time this season.
