Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell shouldered blame for Thursday's loss after Detroit's defense surrendered 41 points to the Buffalo Bills.
"Every time I lace up my cleats, I'm going 100%. Yeah, put it on me," Campbell said, per ESPN's Eric Woodyard. "I played terrible. I've gotta be better. Especially for the offense and for all these guys in the locker room."
Campbell added, "I'm gonna be honest with you. Hats off to them; played terrible. It starts with me, and I feel like it's on me. I gotta be better. And I ain't got no other thing to do but look in the mirror and be better, so that's really where it starts. It starts with us, but yeah, they did a good job."
The Bills put up 27 points in the first half, and the Lions' defense couldn't muster up any key stops in the second half to keep the offense in the game. Although Detroit recorded 31 points for the second straight week to open the season, it allowed 30-plus points in back-to-back contests for the first time since 2021.
Star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson agreed with Campbell's assessment of the Lions' defense needing to step up.
"Things will definitely be changed," he said. "I don't know what that is necessarily, but I know there will be changes. We're not going to keep banging our head against the wall."
Detroit entered the season looking to bounce back from last year's 9-8 record that kept it out of the playoffs. The Lions return to action in Week 3 against the New York Jets.
