Crosby leaves Raiders' facility over team's plan to shut him down
Las Vegas Raiders star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby left the team facility after disagreeing with the team's plan to shut him down for the final two games of the season, head coach Pete Carroll confirmed Friday.
Crosby has been dealing with a knee injury and has also battled shoulder and back issues this season.
"After an evaluation we did Monday or Tuesday (on Crosby's knee), it just looks too bad," Carroll said. "He didn't want to take the news like that, and I didn't want to take the news like that."
He added: "If we let him, he'd have been out there and he wouldn't have hesitated. But he knows he's banged up."
Carroll also said that he was OK with how Crosby reacted to the decision, which included him leaving the facility. Crosby "vehemently" disagreed with the move, and the fallout could lead to questions about his future in Las Vegas, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.
The Raiders' matchup against the New York Giants on Sunday carries significant implications for the 2026 NFL Draft order. Both teams enter with 2-13 records. The Giants are currently projected to pick first overall while the Raiders hold the projected No. 2 pick.
Las Vegas placed tight end Brock Bowers on injured reserve earlier this week. Meanwhile, New York ruled out offensive tackle Andrew Thomas.
Crosby is in the midst of another productive season, registering 10 sacks, an interception, and two forced fumbles across 15 starts.
