Coen: Speculation around Etienne's future with Jaguars 'absolutely inaccurate'

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen denied rumors that the team may be looking to move on from running back Travis Etienne.

"He's done a great job," Coen said Monday, according to Jaguars Wire's Paul Bretl. "I don't really understand some of the stuff I've seen out there, that's absolutely inaccurate."

The head coach added: "Every day, everything we've asked him to do, he's done at a good click for us."

Coen's comments come after sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler last month that the Jaguars' new regime, which includes general manager James Gladstone, doesn't hold a high opinion of Etienne and running mate Tank Bigsby.

Etienne posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns after missing his rookie campaign in 2021 due to a Lisfranc injury sustained in the preseason. His production took a dip in 2024, though: he rushed for just 558 yards and two touchdowns.

The Clemson product's status with the franchise came under further scrutiny when Jacksonville selected Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen in this past NFL draft.

Etienne will earn $6.1 million in the final year of his rookie contract, according to Over the Cap. Etienne has an opportunity to establish his role in Coen's offense that will feature Trevor Lawrence, Brian Thomas Jr., and two-way star Travis Hunter.
