Heyward over Rodgers talk: Either you want to be with Steelers or you don't
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward is tired of discussing the quarterback position as the franchise seemingly awaits an answer from Aaron Rodgers.
"I don't need any of that crap," Heyward said on the "Not Just Football" podcast when asked jokingly if he would join Rodgers for a darkness retreat if it meant the QB signs. "Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don't. That's simple, that's the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that's the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers, if you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don't, no skin off my back."
The Steelers and New York Giants have reportedly pursued Rodgers this offseason and are awaiting a decision from the 41-year-old. The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly also considered Rodgers, and the quarterback is open to the idea.
Pittsburgh is looking for an answer at quarterback after both its 2024 starters in Justin Fields and Russell Wilson entered free agency. The former has already signed a deal with the New York Jets. The Steelers' lone move at the position in free agency was signing Mason Rudolph to a two-year deal.
"I want to play football," Heyward said. "I'm tired about talking about the quarterback situation. I'd rather have it done. I don't know what ends up happening. I don't know, man. I'm ready to move on (from) free agency. It is too much going on."
The Steelers have started five passers (Mitch Trubisky, Kenny Pickett, Rudolph, Fields, and Wilson) since Ben Roethlisberger retired following the 2021 season.
