The NFL disbursed 35 compensatory picks to 15 teams Tuesday, with the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and Baltimore Ravens leading with four apiece.

A team that loses more or better "compensatory free agents" than it acquires in the previous year receives compensatory picks for the following year's draft between Rounds 3-7.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula that considers salaries, playing time, and postseason honors. Not every free agent who signs with a new team is considered a compensatory free agent.

The 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, and Detroit Lions were awarded special compensatory third-round picks due to minority employees being hired as head coaches or general managers.

The New York Jets hired former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to be their head coach earlier this offseason, while the Atlanta Falcons hired former Rams DC Raheem Morris as their head coach last year. The 49ers are receiving an extra pick this year due to DeMeco Ryans and Ran Carthon being hired by the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans, respectively, in 2023.

The 2025 NFL Draft takes place April 24-26 in Green Bay.
