Jacobs: Packers need a WR 'that's proven to be a No. 1'
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has a clear idea of how his team can improve this offseason.
"We've got a really young group of receivers. All can be really, really, really special, but I think personally we need a guy that's proven to be a No. 1 already," Jacobs told 97.3 The Game's Bill Schmid and Armen Saryan. "Somebody that we know is going to be a little bit more consistent."
Green Bay didn't have a wide receiver reach 1,000 yards this season. Quarterback Jordan Love's targets were largely spread equally between Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks - who are all 25 or younger - along with tight end Tucker Kraft.
The Packers made the playoffs as a wild card for the second straight season in 2024 and fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in the opening round. Green Bay was without Watson, Doubs, and Reed due to injury by the end of the loss to the Eagles.
There's been speculation about New York Jets receiver Davante Adams potentially returning this offseason to Green Bay, which drafted him in 2014. Adams spent eight seasons with the Packers and ranks second all time in receptions and receiving touchdowns with the franchise.
He also played with Jacobs for two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. Jacobs joked that "I've had them talks with (Davante)" when asked if that No. 1 receiver he's looking for already played for Green Bay. The 32-year-old Adams is under contract for two more seasons.
Jacobs was a major free-agent acquisition for the Packers last offseason. He rushed for 1,329 yards and scored a career-high 16 touchdowns in 2024. Jacobs added 121 scrimmage yards and a TD in the season-ending loss to Philadelphia.
