Jets hire Engstrand as OC
The New York Jets are hiring Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand as their offensive coordinator, the team announced Friday.
The 42-year-old will reunite with head coach Aaron Glenn, who served as the Lions' defensive coordinator from 2021-24. Engstrand had worked for Detroit since 2000, serving as the team’s passing game coordinator over the past two seasons.
Engstrand was among the candidates to become the Lions' offensive coordinator after Ben Johnson left the organization to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears. Detroit hired John Morton for the vacant role instead and promoted Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator.
Engstrand will be tasked with taking over a Jets offense that finished the 2024 season 24th in total yards and averaged 19.9 points per game.
One of the biggest questions looming for Aaron Glenn's staff is what to do at quarterback next season. Owner Woody Johnson said a decision regarding the future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers would be made by Glenn and Jets general manager Darren Mougey.
