Report: Glenn open to Rodgers returning to Jets
New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is open to quarterback Aaron Rodgers returning to the team next season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Whether the 41-year-old signal-caller returns will be up to Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey, and those conversations will ramp up in the coming weeks, Rapoport added.
Rodgers is under contract for next season at a $23.5-million cap hit, but his deal includes no guaranteed money.
"I know I can still play. Ultimately it comes down to the desire on their (Jets) side and desire on my side," Rodgers said earlier in January.
He tallied his 500th career touchdown pass in 2024 but had one of his least productive seasons. Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while starting all 17 games.
Rodgers ranked 19th among starting quarterbacks in EPA/play, according to Ben Baldwin's database.
New York hired Glenn and Mougey this month after extensive head coach and general manager searches. Glenn was previously the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, while Mougey had been the Denver Broncos' assistant GM.
The Jets hold the seventh overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and are set to have $20.7 million in cap space to begin the offseason.
New York acquired Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers ahead of the 2023 campaign, but the four-time NFL MVP attempted just one pass in his first season as a Jet before rupturing his Achilles tendon.
