Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is among the top candidates for the Chicago Bears head coaching job, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Kingsbury joined the Commanders in February after serving as a senior offensive analyst for USC in 2023 - when Caleb Williams was the school's quarterback before being selected by the Bears first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Williams' completion percentage increased last season despite USC's disappointing 8-5 record.

The Commanders' offense has improved with Kingsbury calling the plays. They're sixth in the league in total yards per game (370.5) and fifth in points per contest (27.8), a huge improvement from last season's 24th and 25th rankings, respectively. The Commanders are 7-5 and second in the NFC East despite a three-game losing streak.

Kingsbury was previously the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals for four seasons from 2019-22. He was fired after the 2022 season after posting a 28-27-1 overall record with one postseason appearance in 2021.

The Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus on Friday, the first time Chicago has fired a coach midseason in team history. Bears offensive coordinator Thomas Brown was named the interim head coach.

Other potential candidates include Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, and former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel, Rapoport adds.
