Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler won't play against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday because of a concussion, head coach Dan Quinn announced Wednesday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Ekeler suffered the concussion in the second half of Monday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals and didn't return to the game. The 29-year-old, who joined Washington in the offseason, scored his first touchdown with the Commanders in Week 3.

Ekeler finished the Bengals matchup with three carries for 35 yards and one touchdown. He also had two receptions for 22 yards and recorded a 62-yard kickoff return. The veteran tailback has returned four kicks in 2024, averaging an NFL-high 36.3 yards per return.

Ekeler ranks third on the team with 13 carries and nine catches after three weeks.

The 2-1 Commanders - who rank fifth in points per game in 2024 - also roster running back Brian Robinson Jr. Robinson leads the club with 45 rushing attempts to go along with 206 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has carried the ball 38 times.

With Ekeler sidelined, running back Jeremy McNichols could see an increased number of snaps while playing behind Robinson.
