Colts' Richardson: 'The world can't stop me' if I put it all together

Anthony Richardson is seeking to become a more balanced quarterback in his second year with the Indianapolis Colts and shed the label of gifted athlete.

"It's like I talked about with Tom Brady. He's a freakin' genius when it comes to football, and he made all of the throws, not just the exciting ones," Richardson said, according to The Athletic's James Boyd. "I want to continue adding that to my game to go with the physical tools and everything else. Because if I put it all together, man … the world can't stop me."

Richardson completed 9-of-19 passes for 212 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a loss to the Houston Texans. He led all Week 1 QBs in explosive play rate, which includes runs of 12 yards or more and passes that are 16 yards or greater.

"I know I'm physically gifted. Everybody knows that," Richardson said. "But playing football, especially as a quarterback, is way deeper than just being physical and being fast."

Richardson's knack for authoring big plays was on full display last weekend, when he produced three completions of 50-plus yards, including a magnificent 60-yard touchdown to Alec Pierce in the first quarter. There were also passes that didn’t find their target, including a pair of misses to rookie Adonai Mitchell that would've have been TDs. But the wide receiver remains impressed with the 2023 fourth overall pick.

"The youngest (starting) quarterback in the NFL right now and making the plays he's making in only Game 1. It's, like, man, we're in pretty good shape here," Mitchell said.

Richardson will lead the Colts into a road test against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
