Parsons unfazed by contract after Dak deal: 'I'm going to be a Cowboy'
Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons isn't worried about a new contract after Dallas finally gave Dak Prescott a long-awaited extension.
"I know I'm going to be a Cowboy," Parsons said on his "The Edge with Micah Parsons" podcast, per ESPN. "There's nothing like Cowboy Nation. I think the love is very mutual.
"As for me, I'm just focused on winning games. ... I want to win those playoff games, get to the Super Bowl. For me, the contract is not really what I'm worried about."
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said a new deal right now is not "on the table," and they will "probably" revisit extension talks following the 2024 campaign, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Prescott is just the latest of Parsons' teammates to sign a big extension after the quarterback inked a four-year, $240-million deal hours before Dallas' Week 1 contest. The Cowboys also extended CeeDee Lamb for four years and $136 million a couple of weeks earlier.
Parsons, meanwhile, is due $21.3 million next season after the Cowboys exercised his fifth-year option, according to Over The Cap. However, the 25-year-old was nothing but happy for his star teammates.
"Congratulations, Dak Prescott," Parsons said. "My mouth dropped. I even told a reporter, I said, 'Goddamn, I can never be broke again if Dak Prescott owes me money.'"
He added: "We're happy it gets done because now, it puts a lot of talk to the side. We're like, 'Man, we got our quarterback now.' We can really just focus, like Dak said, on winning games. ... So having our guys CeeDee Lamb and Dak done, it means the world to us."
Parsons has dominated since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2021. The Penn State product has racked up 217 tackles, 260 pressures, and 41.5 sacks in 51 regular-season contests. He generated nine pressures and one sack on 46 pass rushes, per Next Gen Stats, in the team's season-opening victory over the Cleveland Browns.
The Cowboys will take on the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.
