Giants' Daboll: Benching Jones 'not in my mind' despite rough Week 1
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll shouldered the blame for Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and said he doesn't plan to bench Daniel Jones despite the quarterback's continuous struggles.
"We're going to evaluate everything. That's not in my mind," Daboll said postgame when asked about making a QB change, according to Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports.
"Overall, we have to do a better job, and that starts with me," he added, per SNY.
The Giants were limited to 240 total yards and 14 first downs while committing two turnovers against the Vikings. The oft-criticized Jones - who signed a four-year, $160-million extension in May 2023 - finished Sunday with 22 completions on 42 attempts for 186 yards and no touchdowns against two interceptions, including a pick-6.
"Put it all on me," Daboll said of his team's performance, according to Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News Sports.
Fans at MetLife Stadium booed N.Y. in the second half.
"It's our job to give them something to cheer about and to play well, to execute, and we take that seriously," Jones said postgame, per Vacchiano. "They expect us to play well. We expect to play well. We've gotta do that."
Giants All-Pro defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence wasn't a fan of his team getting booed in Week 1.
"I don't respect that, honestly," he said.
New York visits the Washington Commanders in Week 2.
