Kansas City Chiefs superfan Xaviar Babudar was sentenced in federal court Thursday in connection to a string of bank robberies across the United States.

Babudar, also known as "ChiefsAholic," received a 17.5-year prison sentence after pleading guilty earlier in February to one count of bank robbery, one count of money laundering, and one count of transporting stolen property across state lines, ESPN's Elizabeth Merrill and David Purdum report.

The 30-year-old admitted to stealing more than $800,000 during 11 bank robberies or attempted robberies that occurred across seven states and laundering the money through casinos.

Babudar's attorney, Matthew Merryman, said his client's gambling addiction drove him to commit the robberies. However, U.S. Attorney's Office senior litigation counsel Patrick Daly disagreed.

"It's not an addiction to gambling. It's not an addiction to the Chiefs," Daly said, according to ESPN. "It's an addiction to fame."

Babudar first made headlines in December 2022 when he was arrested in connection with an armed robbery at the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union in Bixby, Oklahoma. He then went on the run for four months after allegedly cutting off his ankle monitor and was eventually arrested again in California.

Prime Video announced in May that Babudar will be the subject of an upcoming documentary.
