Prescott feeling 'great' despite ankle issue

Dak Prescott stole headlines Thursday after a recent photo of the Dallas Cowboys quarterback wearing a walking boot emerged on social media.

Prescott downplayed the situation later in the day, saying he's doing just fine.

"I'm great," he told Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Prescott is dealing with a right foot sprain that temporarily placed him in a walking boot, a source told ESPN's Todd Archer. The injury is reportedly considered minor, and the star passer is no longer wearing the boot.

The three-time Pro Bowler said he wore the protective boot for precautionary reasons.

"The last time I went deep sea fishing, my (ankle) swole up," he told Hill on Thursday.

Prescott missed the final 11 games of the 2020 season after fracturing his ankle during a Week 5 game against the New York Giants.

"The same ankle, same issues," Prescott said. He added that wearing the walking boot is part of the regular maintenance his right ankle has required since he since seriously injured it in 2020.

Prescott is entering the final year of his contract. Dallas reportedly wants to retain its star quarterback, though negotiations this offseason have been described as "passive."

The 30-year-old played all 17 games in 2023, leading the league in completions (410) and touchdown passes (36).

Veterans report for Cowboys training camp July 24 with their first practice set for the following day. Prescott plans to have no limitations at camp, notes Hill.
