Clowney re-signs with Browns on 1-year deal reportedly worth $11M
The Cleveland Browns are re-signing pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney, the team announced Wednesday.
The three-time Pro Bowler signed a one-year contract worth up to $11 million, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
Both parties agreed to terms earlier this week but wanted to finalize details before making the transaction official, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. Clowney turned down multi-year deals from other teams ranging from $14 million-$15 million per season, Rapoport adds.
Clowney spent the 2021 campaign with the Browns and served as a productive pass-rush partner opposite Myles Garrett. Clowney started 14 games and notched nine sacks, his most since 2018.
Cleveland acquired pass-rusher Chase Winovich to bolster its defense earlier this offseason in a trade with the New England Patriots. A third-round pick in 2019, Winovich recorded 5.5 sacks in each of his first two seasons but failed to register a single sack last year. He also played just 14% of the Patriots' defensive snaps.
The Browns allowed 21.8 points per game last season and tallied 43 sacks.
