The Houston Texans' search for their next head coach appears to be winding down.
Houston is expected to hire either Baltimore Ravens assistant David Culley or Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, reports John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Culley operates as Baltimore's assistant head coach, passing game coordinator, and wide receivers coach, and he was initially seen as a dark horse to lead the Texans. But sources told McClain the 65-year-old has emerged as a serious candidate and could be hired over Frazier despite never serving as a head coach or offensive coordinator in the NFL.
Frazier and Culley are reportedly the only candidates to be interviewed twice by general manager Nick Caserio, who is leading the search with team owner Cal McNair. The process is expected to conclude this week.
Houston was also reported to be targeting Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and recently discussed the vacancy with quarterback Josh McCown.
Whoever becomes the Texans' head coach will likely prioritize convincing Deshaun Watson to stay with Houston, but the star quarterback is expected to request a trade regardless of the hiring.
