With Teddy Bridgewater reportedly set to be brought in as the Carolina Panthers' starting quarterback, one team may be interested in acquiring Cam Newton.

Carolina has recently been in contact with the Chicago Bears regarding a potential Newton trade, a source told CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones.

The expectation is that the former MVP will soon be released, but Chicago may not want to compete for his services in the open market, Jones adds.

Despite reported positivity regarding the 30-year-old's recovery from foot and shoulder injuries, the Panthers granted him permission to seek a trade on Tuesday.

Newton missed 14 games last season with a Lisfranc injury to his left foot. His recent injury history made many question whether Carolina and new coach Matt Rhule would commit to him long term.

The Bears, meanwhile, face uncertainty at quarterback heading into the 2020 campaign. 2017 first-round pick Mitchell Trubisky has yet to live up to expectations, and head coach Matt Nagy may be looking to move in a different direction under center this season.
