Report: Chiefs agree to trade Dee Ford to 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers agreed to a trade Tuesday to acquire Dee Ford from the Kansas City Chiefs, a source told Albert Breer of The MMQB.
Kansas City will reportedly receive a 2020 second-round pick in return for the star pass-rusher, who received the franchise tag ahead of free agency this offseason.
A new long-term deal for Ford was reportedly a requirement to get the trade done, and San Francisco will lock him up with a five-year extension worth roughly $87.5 million, a source told NFL Network's James Palmer.
Ford, a first-round pick in 2014, emerged as a dominant force for Kansas City's defense last season, racking up a career-high 13 sacks en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance.
The 27-year-old represents a major upgrade for a 49ers defensive front in search of edge-rush talent to complement its impressive crop of players on the interior.
