Here's what you can bet on this weekend

With the sports world shutting down - and rightfully so - options are depressingly scarce for unrelenting bettors such as myself.

Some people might be wondering: "How could you possibly care about betting on sports at a time like this?" Well, try doing something every day for 15 years and then having it suddenly ripped from you. And it's in times like these that we most need the distraction - a reminder that while the world closes down for a few weeks, we don't have to sit at home feeling scared and miserable.

If you fall into that category with me and are desperate for an escape, but find yourself wondering what you can bet on this weekend, hopefully this will help.

Basketball

To kick your weekend off, a pair of games in Argentina's Liga Nacional are scheduled for Friday night and I'm loving what I'm seeing. Libertad has lost 17 in a row on the road, with 16 of them by at least 10 points. Sign me up for Estudiantes -8.5, duh.

Once we cash that, we can dive into a wealth of other leagues playing this weekend, including in Algeria, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Hungary, Iceland, Mexico, Senegal, Tunisia, Turkey, and Uruguay.

Soccer

This weekend's soccer card doesn't necessarily count as obscure, depending on who you're asking. The Russian Premier League and Turkish Super Lig are still running, as is every major South American league, giving us a full slate of matches starting Friday afternoon and running right through to Sunday night.

We get something of a blockbuster tie (at least by current standards) in Turkey with Galatasaray hosting Besiktas. Galatasaray are in terrific form, having won five straight league matches at home, while the host club has won five consecutive meetings between these two sides. At the short price of -105, let's roll with Galatasaray.

There's also top-flight football in Hungary, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, and Serbia, which I will certainly be betting on. These used to be my bread and butter, so it's nice to get back to my roots. There's a silver lining in everything if you look hard enough.

MMA

In what will easily be the most-bet-on event of the weekend, UFC Brasilia is a full go Saturday night, though it will be held behind closed doors. The full card has 12 fights, including the headliner, with Kevin Lee (-150) favored over Charles Oliveira (+125).

Horse racing

Who doesn't love a good afternoon at the track? Sure, we might have to enjoy it from our couch, but can we really be picky in times like these? Tracks across the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, and select ones in North America remain open, with races scheduled throughout the weekend.

Rugby

Super Rugby will continue uninterrupted with the full Week 7 schedule. I'll be on Bulls +8 at Reds, which gets underway at 4:15 a.m. ET, because I need to wake up to some good news Saturday.

Snooker

Desperate times call for desperate measures. On Monday, I didn't expect to be writing about snooker by Friday, but here we are. The Gibraltar Open - that's a real thing - runs Saturday and there's a full slate of 24 matches to wager on.

Based on his name alone, I'll need to lay some down on Billy Joe Castle (+220) to beat Sam Craigie. Judd Trump (pictured below) is -50000 to beat Lee Prickman, which seems insane considering the vast majority of these lines fall between -300 and +300. Is Prickman playing with his hands tied behind his back?

Volleyball

There's so much volleyball to bet on that I never even knew existed. If UFC isn't your thing, Brazil's Superliga runs Saturday night.

We've also got both men's and women's action in Brazil, Indonesia, Montenegro, Russia, Rwanda, Serbia, Thailand, Tunisia, and Turkey.

Gisagara VC -2.5 (+100) over IPRC Ngoma in Rwanda looks juicy.

Floorball

First of all, this is my new favorite sport. I'll be searching incessantly for a stream of at least one of Saturday's games. Round 35 of the Swedish Super League goes this weekend and I might have to dabble on under 10.5 goals between Linkoping and Kalmarsund.

Linkoping's home games are averaging 8.8 goals and Kalmarsund's away games are averaging 10.0 goals, both the lowest tallies in the division. Their last two meetings ended 4-3 and 5-3.

I'm not joking; this is a real-life bet I just made.

Handball

A cousin to floorball, not to be overlooked are the four games in Hungary's first division Saturday. Let's get wild.
