Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko likened LSU's ongoing feud with the SEC over rostering ex-professional players to a child seeing what they can get away with before facing discipline from their parents.
"This is a little bit like the son figuring out where the limits are until dad comes home and raises his voice, and then the son goes, 'I was just kidding, I didn't mean any of that,'" Elko said on his weekly radio show, according to On3's Thomas Goldkamp. "I think that's what you're seeing."
The SEC threatened to vote on expelling LSU after the Tigers pushed to roster former NFL rookies Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris. The conference is no longer expected to do so after the Tigers filled their two remaining roster spots with eligible student-athletes.
LSU didn't include the players on its Week 1 roster and officially cut ties with Wright and Harris earlier this week as scrutiny from the SEC intensified. Head coach Lane Kiffin fueled the controversy during his club's romp over Clemson on Saturday, telling a sideline reporter to "imagine if we had pro players" when LSU led 31-3 at halftime.
Despite the recent drama, Elko said he expects cooler heads to prevail.
"LSU will be in the SEC," he said. "LSU will be fired up when we go to Baton Rouge in a couple weeks. All of those things are going to happen. This is just a little bit of parenting going on right now."
LSU and Texas A&M will meet in Death Valley on Sept. 26. Both schools are currently ranked in the top 10.
